Village Grill 31 West Second St. Lexington, NC

After several restaurants have come and gone in the Earnhardt Building in Uptown Lexington I think we have a keeper. The Village Grill is located at 31 W. Second Ave in Uptown Lexington. Second Ave. is one of the busiest retail streets in Lexington.

Those of you who know me know that I love to eat, so I decided to try out the lunch. I ordered the Homemade Lasagna. It is served with a house salad. The Lasagna was layers of pasta filled with ricotta and mozzarella cheese and beef. It was topped with a meat sauce and grated mozzarella. It was served with two slices of garlic bread. The dish was served quickly, was hot, very tasty and I have to say, great garlic bread.

Their motto is "Good Food is our Recipe". The menu includes seafood such as Alaskan White Fish, Steaks, Chicken, including Cajun Chicken. Italian dishs include Spaghetti, Veal Cutlets and a dish called Manicotte Siciliano. Greek favorites Chicken and Pork Souviaki.

Cold platters such as Chicken and Tuna and a Roast Beef platter. Appetizers include Buffalo Wings and Shrimp. A large selection of sandwiches including Greek specials Lamb Gyro and Beef and Chicken Souviaki.

A full breakfast offering includes Waffles, breakfast sandwiches, Omelettes and breakfast plates. The breakfast special is 3 eggs served with your choice of Sausage, Bacon, Links, Grits, Gravy or Hash Browns, Toast and 1 Pancake for $5.99 Breakfast is served all day on Sunday.

I had a chance to sit down and talk with Jimmy Skordas one of the owners. Jimmy was immediately chatting away. A tall man with an infectous smile and short blond hair. He is Greek and has been cooking all his life. After running and owning restaurants in Winston-Salem, Kernersville and Charlotte he can barely contain himself talking about his new restaurant Village Grill. The interior has been totally redone and with the faux paint on the walls and the special effect paint on the windows that line the entire front of the building, it gives you a very comfortable feeling inside. The interior was done by Lexington's own "Master Artist" Chip Holton.

Let me be the first to announce something that Jimmy relayed to me. We all know the rusting historic ice cream fixture that has been on the upper corner of the Earnhardt building for......well I don't know how long it has been there. Anyway, in case you have not noticed, it's gone. (Jimmy says that many of you have noticed and called him about the sign) Never fear, Jimmy has shipped the sign off and is having it lovingly restored to original condition, including the neon lights. Just one small difference, his restaurant's name will be painted on the sign.

Toward the end of our conversation I asked Jimmy what he would like to tell the folks of Davidson County? He thought for a moment, then with a big smile he said, "I want everyone to know this is home. I want everyone to feel at home. To enjoy the food, to enjoy the staff and to get to know him and his wife Maria". He further said, " I am just a New York boy, but I have fallen in love with Lexington and I want to be here a long time".

Stop on by, I heartily recomend it!   Map it | Get directions
